HEALTH MATTERS SHOW

This show was initiated because Deaf people so often find it difficult to access health services especially health related information due to communication barriers as well as lack of appropriate reasonable accommodation

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) of which Uganda is a signatory in its article 21(a) requires that state parties provide information intended for general public use in accessible formats and technologies appropriate to different kinds of disabilities.

For example, there is limited availability of Sexual and reproductive health information in Sign Language. This has put Deaf people at high risk to contacting Sexual transmitted Infections especially HIV/AIDs as well as unwanted pregnancies, early marriage and sexual violence.

The Health Matters show runs for 10 to 20 minutes and airs every Wednesday morning on the SignsTV Uganda YouTube channel.

The show will basically provide Deaf persons with topical health information – Health tips, facts, alerts among others so they are best placed to know how to take good care of them. Every month, the program will feature a a health topic right from Sexual Reproductive Health, General Health, Wellness, Mental health, and many other health issues.
